Richard Thomas Francis Murray, 79 of Verplanck, NY passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018. He was born to William H. Murray, Sr. and Margaret (Boyle) Murray on August 30, 1938 in Peekskill, NY. Richard was dedicated parishioner at St. Patrick's Church in Verplanck. He also dedicated his life to many fire departments including as a past Chief of the Verplanck Fire Department and Commissioner of the Verplanck Fire Protective Association, past President of the Westchester County Volunteer Fireman's Association, and was life member of the Buchanan Engine Co. Richard Thomas Francis Murray, 79 of Verplanck, NY passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018. He was born to William H. Murray, Sr. and Margaret (Boyle) Murray on August 30, 1938 in Peekskill, NY. Richard was dedicated parishioner at St. Patrick's Church in Verplanck. He also dedicated his life to many fire departments including as a past Chief of the Verplanck Fire Department and Commissioner of the Verplanck Fire Protective Association, past President of the Westchester County Volunteer Fireman's Association, and was life member of the Buchanan Engine Co. Richard also served with the Columbian Hose of Peekskill and the Centennial Hose of Peekskill. He was a member of the Peekskill Elks and the Knights of Columbus. Richard was a proud veteran serving in the Army from 1961-1962. He belonged to the William J. Boyle Post 1030 American Legion. Richard was a bricklayer with the Bricklayers Local 5.
Richard is survived by his brother William H. Murray, Jr., nephews Sean (Michelle) and Frank Murray, nieces Jean Gormley and Anna Johnson (Bob), and by great nieces and nephews Sean Jr., Patrick, Niamh, Sophie, Ryan, Sierra, and Baily.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan 14th from 3-8PM at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, NY. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10AM on Monday, Jan 15th at St. Patrick's Church in Verplanck with burial to follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery also in Verplanck.
